Williams, Ni’Im Mrs. Corona English III Honors November 8,2017 Gangs, are they good for our community? Gangs, they’re all around us,everywhere,and anywhere. How do us americans feel about gangs, and their affects on our environment ? I’m against gangs because of their affect on our youth. It affects the youth causing distractions, peer pressure, and blocking opportunities for them. Gangs are one of the top three causes of crime in America today. And gives America’s crime system a lot of difficulty with solving the problem. Gangs are and have always been apart of the crimes in America. Gangs biggest area in crime rate is in murder. It’s plenty of gangs in America but crips and bloods are the main issue and the ones drawing the attention of the youth. Many of today’s murders are caused between these two gangs for no reason. Most of the teens and youth who join gangs dont really have a reason for why they joined them. Either they respond with â€Å" for protection† or â€Å" I don’t know†.( ruthless gangs). â€Å"It turns out that, like violence, gang membership is as much a public health problem as a criminal justice problem,†.( negative effects).These gangs brainwash the youth making them think it’s cool or you have to join a gang because of where you live. But they don’t have to and they’re killing people they don’t even know or have a problem with for a name. I think the main reason for joining a gang is because of wanting to fit in. Social media is one of the worse things in todays generation.Social media is starting to make it seem like g ang banging is a cool or fun thing to do. Same thing with the music industry, full of gang bangers that promote gangs in their music screaming â€Å"gang† or â€Å"squad†, this type of music being the most viewed or highly ranked on the billboard.( daft punk ). Slaughter House Five Kurt Vonnegut wrote Slaughterhouse Five as well as many other novels. Slaughterhouse Five is the story of Billy Pilgrim. Pilgrim is a time traveling war veteran who is "unstuck" in time. The entire novel is a journey through this universe. He visits strange planets and the bombing of Dresden in Germany. Human cruelty is the overall theme of the novel. It is the behavior of men that they will harm anything weak. There is always a bully in every community. Weary's attitude as a bully is apparent in all sections of human kind. The bombing in Germany is an example of human cruelty. It shows our blind vengeance and little ability to reason. The mop-up after a battle also proves this. The complicating incidents are his continuing adventures during his imprisonment in the war. The climax is the bombing of Dresden. The setting varies in time and place in many instances but is mainly in Germany toward the end of the war. Pilgrim even travels to distant galaxies, such as Tralfamadore. The major characters are Billy Pilgrim and Kilgore Trout. Billy Pilgrim tries to survive the ordeals he is thrown into and is a true adventurer. Trout is also stuck in the fray. The style of the novel is light and even pretty funny. The language reflects the story and is wordy, and little complicated . The book uses its comedy to help get the reader through the complex plot. This book makes you think. All the sci-fi incidents capture your imagination.
